If there’s one thing that makes electronics unpredictable, it’s water. Sometimes, if your phone, camera, or laptop, etc, gets wet, you can get away with it, and the device keeps working like nothing ever happened. To be fair, this doesn’t often happen, as most of the time, it powers off and won’t come back on, or some parts of the device stop working completely.

On rarer occasions, the device works perfectly for a while, and then just when you’ve forgotten about the water damage; bang! It won’t power on. This particular customer had a water damaged HTC One, that was dropped in some water 6 months ago. What happened was, the dropped HTC kept working with no issues while there was water inside it. After a while, the water dried in, and then started oxidising some parts of the mainboard, which this customer got away with also; the phone continued working. Then, all of a sudden, it stopped working completely, because the oxidation had slowly eaten away at some of the internal components until it caused a short circuit.

Thankfully, one of our engineers performed a water damage repair on the phone, fixed some short circuits, and then replaced the HTC One screen, HTC One charger port, and HTC One power flex, getting the phone as good as new, in no time.
