Well there is no straight answer to this question, all bets are off when it comes to electronic equipment and water damage. In the case of this water damaged Canon 60mm Macro lens, there was a couple of factors going against it. 

First and foremost, the lens was completely submerged in water, which is not good. Secondly, it was at the beach this happened, so it was salt water, which is really not good (accelerates corrosion). Gladly, we able to perform a complete water damage clean out on this lens, and replace the damaged auto focus motor in the lens, getting it back up and running, as good as new.
