In recent months, Sony has moved on from it’s popular flagship series, the ‘Z’. Debuting early 2013, this range has been going strong up until this year, when it was replaced by Sony’s new Xperia XZ, it’s latest and greatest phone. Since the Xperia Z release a few years ago, Sony have built premium, water resistant phones, with a focus on clean design, and having an excellent camera. As the Xperia Z5 Premium is the swansong for this range, it’s fitting that it would be IP68 rated for water resistance, have a fantastic 23MP camera, and keep the clean, ‘slate’ design of the previous models.

In the past, Sony have attempted a foray into phablet territory, but perhaps taking it a bit too far with the release of the Xperia Z Ultra, a mammoth phone, featuring a 6.4 inch display. The Xperia Z5 Premium has a much more subdued 5.5 inch display, putting it more in line with Samsung’s Note range in terms of size.

As with any modern phone, it is fragile, and although it is designed to withstand the elements, gravity will still be it’s downfall. Unfortunately for some, drops and knocks are an inevitability, so we’ve received a fair amount of damaged and broken Xperia Z5 Premium phones. Happily, they can almost always be repaired, like the dead Xperia Z5 Premium pictured above, which was brought to our repair centre a couple of days ago.
