Apple are a well organised and well prepared company, particularly when it comes to IOS updates on the iPhone. There adoption rate for firmware updates in head and shoulders above Android (to be fair there are a number of reasons for this outside of Apple’s efficiency), but they do cause some problems.

Commonly, we book in iPhones for repair, that were recently updated, and then decided to stop powering on, particularly last generation models. The cynical part of me would think that this may be Apple’s way of encouraging upgrades, but the issue may be simpler than that; a lot of the time the older models simply don’t have the hardware power to manage some of the new features, or the update file is corrupted slightly during the download/install process.

To be on the safe side, backing up your phone before updating firmware is always a good idea, and only downloading the update on WiFi is equally important (the steadier connection helps avoid pauses in the download which can lead to problems).
