Have you ever seen someones phone, or maybe your own, that has had a film screen protector on it for a couple of months? You know the ones, when the corners are starting to lift, and there’s dust stuck to the underside, and the protector is covered in scratches with bubbles underneath.

Or have you ever had the misfortune of trying to apply a film screen protector? Holding your breath in those last, anxious couple of seconds when you’re applying it, hoping a piece of dust doesn’t fall underneath just as you press it down, leaving a bubble underneath. Personally, I’ve gone through entire 5 packs of screen protectors just to get one right.

Thankfully, the dark days of film screen protectors are over, and they are being replaced with tempered glass screen protectors. The tempered glass offers many, many advantages over the traditional ones; they’re more responsive, you can’t scratch them even with a knife (I’ve tried, and it works), they last way longer, and the corners don’t lift on them.

By far the biggest advantage for everyone using them though, is that they actually help strengthen your screen, and will help the phone survive drops far better than it used to. A colleague of mine recently dropped his Xperia Z3 on a fireplace with a tempered glass protector on it and it didn’t even scratch it.
